XML sitemap checker

Check the file and the pages it lists. Enter your website to test common sitemap paths, or paste an exact XML sitemap URL for a custom location.

Run a free focused check

No account or email required. Check one public URL at a time.

What this tool inspects

The result reports the sitemap response, its urlset or sitemapindex structure, the number of fetched locations, duplicate locations and non-absolute URLs. It samples up to five pages for HTTP status, noindex evidence and canonicals. For an index, it samples up to two child sitemaps, one level deep. The tested URLs and sample size are shown in the result.

How to read the result

A successful fetch is not enough if a missing XML path returns an HTML homepage. Review structural warnings first, then redirecting or excluded page locations. A small sample helps identify a template problem but cannot certify every page in a large sitemap. If an important child sitemap was not sampled, run its exact URL separately and compare the evidence.

Where a manual check still matters

This is a bounded inspection and basic structure check, not full XML schema validation or a complete site crawl. It does not prove indexing, check Search Console submission status or measure crawl frequency. Responses are capped at 1.5 MB. Gzip-only and unusual namespace formats may require manual verification. A missing conventional path can be solved by entering the real sitemap URL.

Keep useful evidence

Successful checks save a snapshot to your browser workspace. Run the same tool on the same final URL again to compare check statuses with the prior saved result. Export CSV or JSON to keep a file, or print the result as a PDF. Browser data stays on this device and does not run automatic scans.

Common questions

Can I check a sitemap index?

Yes. The tool inspects the index and samples up to two child files, with no recursive full-site crawl. Submit individual child URLs for additional checks.

Is this a complete website audit?

This tool answers one focused question on a bounded public response. The launch audit combines 40 checks, with a free top-three preview and paid full reports.

Does this change my website?

No. These checks fetch public information and return evidence. You decide whether to change the site and verify the result after deployment.
